    I love feathered star quilts of any type. Marsha McCloskey has methods that are not PP.

    I have seen medallion quilts where each successive border has many HST or hour glass units. You could design as you go.

    Some people enjoy the challenge of working in a series to develop and experiment with an idea or concept.

    Ancient Stars by Sue Garman might fit your criteria. It does not look like PP to me.
