I still think commercially dyed fabrics should be colorfast.
I never assume that they are, though

I wonder why it is not? What process would make it so? Perhaps we should ask the mfgrs........at the going price there should be some guarantee of worthiness. Why would we buy tons of fabric, create with it, only to have it be ruined by soap and water.......

clothing that is washable doesn't seem to have that problem....are we being "ripped off" with inferior product at inflated prices? The bleeding of color seems to be getting worse, not better.

Or we think so .... you may be surprised by putting Colour Catchers into the wash with clothing!
Ever notice how colours are not as bright and clear as when you purchase them?
