Nice fabric selection, JeanieG, those look just about perfect! I'm so jealous of those of you with easy pulls
Good question, DebLuvsQuilting!
My initial response is (with 3 fabrics) that I would try to make each clue roughly 1/3 of each fabric. A lot of that would depend on how close/different the fabrics are. If they are close in color/pattern I think you'd be fine doing all of a clue in one fabric. If they are very different I'd use them all so you could tell they are supposed to be the same color group.
One of the differences between Bonnie and I is that I also prefer a more controlled hand instead of Bonnie's riotous everyone in the pool. For me this year using one melon and my white on white neutrals basically being one color, I've been trying to think through how my red and aqua equivalents are going to work being scrappy.
Today is my sewing group, I have a big bag of fabrics to play with and audition for what direction I will be going in colors. I am often fooled but I have some ideas on how things will work by the amount of yardage required and some of the time I'll just be zoned out staring at my fabric in soft focus (lol easy with the state of my eyes).
Speaking of the eye issues, I have had one of my cataract surgeries and had a huge improvement in my available vision. This Friday will be the second one. Unfortunately for me my vision can't be corrected by glasses alone and I wear specialty contacts which change the shape of my eye. That means I will have a longer than usual healing time before I can wear the contacts. I do feel pretty confident that I'll be able to drive again (eventually). I feel pretty confident with the amount of vision I currently have that I will at least be able to cut my fabrics each clue and maybe sew some -- that's a big change from a month ago. Is hard to estimate but say I started with my left eye at 20/200, it's maybe more like 20/60 now. The surgery itself was super easy, fast, and not scary and I am healing well. I have some pretty weird light effects at night and they might go away, but because of my underlying issues I haven't driven at night for about 10 years anyway.

DebLuvsQuilting, I try to mix them up. I have done it both ways and it works either way. I always overcompensate for running out of fabric. By mixing them up, I can easily add in another fabric if I run out.

DebLuvsQuilting - I am one who likes the controlled scrappy look as well and pull a few fabrics of each color. I then use one fabric for an entire clue. This is my 4th BH Mystery doing it this way and it works well for me. There is no right or wrong. Just do what you feel comfortable with.

Iceblossom, I'm very happy for your good news!
I am going to return to my work/time-saving approach and choose different fabrics for each clue. It makes for a much easier prep per clue. I used to be able to prep all of my fabric at one time, but I can't stand and press fabric for that long anymore.

Welcome aboard, it can be terribly confusing the first time and then just normally confusing after that. I will post the clues each week in this thread. The next clue is just a couple weeks away -- November 22, the Friday before Thanksgiving this year. You can sign up for emails to come directly your inbox at Bonnie's site, or I will post the printable clue (PDF) in this thread (also from Bonnie's site). The live internet page is:

This is the printable version

She gives us the color suggestions (including paint chip names and numbers from Lowe's) and yardages in this clue.

I played with fabric a lot yesterday and I'm pretty happy with my "rusty brick" reds. Have two sets of green (my aqua), both would work but I'm not quite as happy as I'd like. Plus, I'm remembering one piece of green striped fabric that maybe I don't have any more and am sort of obsessed with looking for it...
My fabric has a true blue and quite a bit of golden yellow and while I'm looking for the missing stripe, I'll also pull some of those to see if I like the combinations better.
I measured my yardages and have enough for the back and plenty for the Melon.

Ice Blossom love the melon! In the last bh mystery I used the same red throughout and made the rest scrappy. I really liked how it turned out. I am still debating swapping the red for another color. I have a yellow (medium bright print) that I am considering.
