My DH asked me to not do that any more. He is glad i'm thrifty, but he wares thoses steel toe shoes and no matter what kind I buy, he only get a month or two out of them. They get too big of holes to darn.

I darn my husbands socks. It goes quickly and makes me feel like I accomplish something.

When my Grandma Dorothy was alive, we would always take our socks to her and she'd darn them for us. I never minded wearing them after she darned them. I wish I would have learned to do it.
A couple weeks ago I was at my mom's cleaning out my old closet, and I found a pair of my old gloves. I noticed that they had been darned too! It gave me a very fond memory of Grandma. And, guess what!! The gloves match my new coat. I brought them home for another winter!

Yes...and when they are too far gone for fixing I put them over my hand and use them as dusters. Have even been known after their dusting life is over to roll them into a ball for furniture polish application....frugal in the extreme.

I didn't like the feel of anything extra on my socks and I felt I had better things to do with my time, so when my husband asked me to darn his socks, I did. I took the socks and stood over the wastebasket and said DARN with each sock I threw away. We have been married over 31 years and he didn't ask after that.

I do, I like doing it, I looked for a darning egg for years with no luck, found one on ebay a few years ago, works better than the light bulb.

I really find it strangely comforting and relaxing to do.

    Anyone else darn?

I don't darn socks, but I recentlly turned the collars on two denim shirts for hubby! Believe it or not, he really appreciated it. Of course some of my friends think I have more time than brains! If they only knew!!!

All my socks pretty much came from garage sales, lol, so I dont darn them. I LOOK for .10 socks, I hate spending alot on stuff like that. I always find really cute ones too!
But BF just bought some hunting ones that were SO expensive..I WOULD darn those!
