I make these, but the binding process is too tedious. You can make them and turn them through an opening in the side - much neater than folding the ends over and over to make the carrier pocket. I have put insul brite in mine and I have also made them using an old blanket. I dress mine up with a fabric flower. I also ad a loop to hold the serving spoon. And I make a coordinating potholder or two.

Thank you for the very nice pictures on how to make this carrier. I received one as a gift a few years ago and have used it many times. I always worry about the dowels sliding one way or another why I am carrying it. I see that someone mentioned wooden spoons instead; that sounds like a way to keep the fabric from sliding out especially in one direction.

There is a slot between the two pieces where you can insert a vinyl tile (12x12" flooring tile). This makes a good bottom for whatever you're carrying in the carrier.

Hey, I have this pattern, too!
I closed in the dowel ends, though, so they don't slide through or out. Have made a few of them and given them to friends.
I'm sure there will be a lot of people who appreciate a tute. Good patterns are hard to find!
