Thank you, I have played with it today and I am impressed how quite it is. Makes a wonderful stitch. I don't seem to mind that this is an E machine. Of course I will have to try it out in the treadle and with a HC. It appears to be a work horse.

Yes it did. She said you better go get it before it is gone so went early when the store opened and got it. She said Miriam said the 201 is a very good machine and that I would like it and I do.Originally Posted by miriam
Glenn I yelled at Pat to get it for you... did it help?

Glenn,
My 201-2 "IS" a workhorse and will remain an e-machine. I have other treadles and a HC to use so I don't want to fix it cos it ain't broke.
For straight line quilting the 201 is the best machine we have. For piecing, most any will do.

Glenn,
I love my 201k hand crank/treadle, its so quiet when its oiled correctly.
Just don't forget all the oil points on the bottom of the machine, I missed a few when I first started using it. I eventually found a manual for it and it showed all the oil points, lots quieter now.

I actually sewed the exterior leather for a hauberk (body armor) using our 201-2. I was able to do flat-felled seams through it all. the leather was 3oz Bison. Amazing machine.
(of course Heather angst about the machine getting "ruined" inspired the purchase of my 29-4 patcher...)

My children are such enablers. My youngest daughter showed up today with a set of White irons - no machine. Not sure what she expects me to do with them and I don't know enough about such things to know if they are complete. I need to put them beside a 'good' set for comparison. I do have a White Family Rotary portable on which I don't like the looks of the wiring.

Did you get this machine working? I'd love to know how it sews. I'm bidding on an 1895 version - nervously!!!
Cheers,

Cil, wow I want one too, but I doubt that machine was used to make saddles. Maybe tack for horses, but saddles would need a free arm wouldn't they guys? Geeze, what a monster machine!Originally Posted by makitmama
all you industrial fans out there- I got to see a cool machine at my OSMGs yesterday- a Singer 7-44. Look at this pic of it next to a regular singer. He on on FB under sewingmachinesteve, with more pix.
Congratulations Glenn on your 201!
