    I think it's lovely just the way it is. I have that same brown fabirc that you used for the sashing and I've used it in several quilts. My original piece that I bought is joust about gone.

    I would put a thin strip of gold, then a wider one of plaid. Very cute. I'm a fan of borders. I think they add a lot.

    I vote a 1 inch of black and at least 5 inch of gold. Then bind it in the plaid.
