Perhaps if you decide on shelves, you could put some wheels on them so that they can be moved anywhere you need them to go. Could you get wheels with stoppers to keep them in place and not roll about? Just a thought.

Get rid of the knickknacks! I got rid of my whole Betty Boop collection years ago and don't miss it. Love my fabric...Love your fabric!

I would go with purchasing a multishelf bookcase and sort your fabric that way, your hutch is too small. Remember to not have fabric too close to a light source as it will fade over time. Also find a way to keep the dust off.

I've been using tubs, too, and they really ARE a pain! However, if you leave the hutch in the kitchen, consider how much cooking grease and other kitchen odors and what-not would end up on the fabrics... I'd move the hutch if I was going to use it.

Here is an option: I am a collector of salt & pepper shakers. I have most of them in a hutch in my kitchen. I'm considering packing my salt & pepper shakers up and using the space for fabric. Should I do it? Or just live in tubs?
I really don't see the S&P shakers in the hutch. What if you moved the plant on top of the cabinet and put the shakers up there so that you can stack the fabric behind the glass. If you need more room, a shallow shelf over the window would hold your shakers, look cute and it will be a long time before you see the dust and gunk on them as evidenced by the stuff on top of my kitchen cabinets. lol

There, that solved your problem and solved 2 problems for me......it will build my fabric stash and add to MY salt and pepper collection. :) And that means you can start building you a new stash. :)
    8-)

    Too funny!!!

My 2 cents is really against the norm. I don't know if I would move them, for a couple reasons. 1. How close is the hutch to the kitchen? The fabric will absorb food smells.

Secondly, I'm not sure how members of your family are with change. A change that big wouldn't go over well in our house unless the change was gradual.

For example, if I'm going to get my hair cut short, I have several haircuts until it's short enough. Didn't have the funds to do that this time, so had it all chopped off, about 8 inches or so. Oh man, you would have thought the world was over. I know the person I'm talking about recognized me, but the change was too much for him to tolerate. That was about 4 weeks ago and he seems to be used to it now.

    Just a thought.....

I have given up on using tubs; I like the plastic shelves, the big ones, on rollers (Target usually has them). Label the outside with a color or however works for you. This way the shelves can be rolled anywhere, so my family isn't overwhelmed by tubs that are difficult to move. As for the S&P shakers, I'm starting to downsize my less beloved rubber stamps. Either pack some away or sell your less special ones on Etsy. Aren't we lucky to have so much stuff!!!
