Such a great idea. Love it. Thanks for sharing. I have something I could use that idea on.

I love this quilt.... what a great job you did. Do you mind sharing how working with the tie's was... did you find you had to use a foundation? Back them with anything... how slippery were they to use... thanks

Of course it's strong enough to use. I can't have a piece of furniture that is for decoration only, must be multi-purpose. With the stiff/straight back, it's not too comfortable on the back. I've sat in it for 20 minutes at a time about 3 times since finishing it last night. Now, mind you my hips and thighs are covering the wooden frame and probably taking the brunt of the weight!

No foundation. No backing. Yes, slippery. Once I trimmed them down and re-covered the "batting" with the newly trimmed silk I did a very loose basting stitch to hold the silk into place and that was really what helped make this project a success. After that, they weren't really all that slippery to use.

In making the tie quilts, I took the ties apart, hand washed them (if necessary), then backed them with an iron on backing. Used templates for all the pinwheel pieces, hand traced them , cut them out and then just sewed them together like fabric. Quite the challenge, the other quilts I made ranged in size from 35"x 42" to twin size, to this California King. I had a friend of mine quilt the CK quilt, too big for me to do.
