They're supposed to be good for you. When we were heavily into back packing, we always had my home made trail bread, and soda crackers and sardines. I still am not fond of them but do eat some every week or two, just because they are supposed to be good for you. And other ocean fish are becoming full of vile stuff from pollution.

I usually don't eat fish. But I''ll never forget that meal in Portimao, Portugal, A little shack on a pier near the fishing boats, We were eating outside on a table made of planks, sitting on benches, We were served a salad, fresh slices of tomatoes set on lettuce with Bermuda onion rings, then came a plate of sardines cooked over coals, with boiled potatoes and green beans with a glass of rosé.This is a meal I'll never forget, but I will never open a can of sardines, two different worlds,

Use them to cat the cats the neighbor keeps bringing home and doesn't spay or neuter or give any shots/flea med. I take them to the shelter where they have a 100% home finder rate. So the cats win.
