Oh, boy, and I'm due to go through Baton Rouge on the way home from Tallahassee next Thursday or Friday. However, I had read a report saying that the Mississippi wasn't due to crest in Louisiana for another three weeks. Hope that report was true, or I'll be stranded. Watch the reports and be ready to get out if you have to!

Once they open the Morganza, we will be in the direct path of the flood down here on the Atchafalaya River. In '73 when the Morganza was opened we had 10.5' of water, this time, they say it would be 13'. There is no winning plan :(

    Sure hope those levy's hold........

And "they" said, don't try to outrun the water because it is useless, just stay in the house and wait for aid, just like what happened during Katrina!!!!! And we all know how well that turned out.
***I sure hope some lessons were learned from Katrina/Rita, but who knows with new admisistration. Keeping fingers crossed the president can stop compaigning and stay home to take care of the flooding mess affecting so many Americans. Good luck, take care.

I hope so too, but for us, it is the governor who is never here. Lots of national hype about him, and he will have a "face" to this situation, but he is almost never here. Very discouraging for sure.

Update we heard is that Morganza will open tomorrow, but that puts other people in danger or displacement, and that is heartbreaking. And, like one of you said, man made flood may not be covered by flood insurance. So very sad.

Thanks to all of your for your concern. PS We are in Atlanta. No floods here right now.

Flooding is a terrible thing. My thoughts and prayers go out to all in the path of the mighty Mississippi.
My son lives in Baton Rouge and has a very nice camp at Butte Larose. He cleaned the camp out this week. He knows there will be nothing good there when the water goes away. He is expecting 15 feet of water there. I will be watching
too but it wont look good.

While we ooooo'ed and ahhh'ed over all the pretty snow pictures all winter and thanked God we didn't have to deal with that mess down here in the south, who knew Mother Nature was going to let us see if afterall, but in a different form. Thanks a lot!

And here's the ironic part.... we're in an extreme drought. Whoever heard of a flood and drought at the same time.

PS... just got word that the Morganza Spillway will be opened within the next 24 hours.

Sorry to hear about the water getting close to you, I would be gone as soon as I could. Water is a scary thing to deal with. My prayers are with you and everyone in the areas that are in danger. But I will watch the news and see if I see anyone holding a sewing machine. Then I will laugh, because I will understand why they are doing that.
May the Lord be with you.

My thoughts and prayers will be with everyone in the area of the flooding. I hope and pray it won't be too hard on everyone. Do take care and be safe.

We heard that too. While it may relieve us, it causes so much disruption and chaos for many others.
