There. I'm getting off my soapbox. Said my piece, and as I mentioned before, it really doesn't matter...I just had to get it off my chest! (Can you tell I've been surfing Craig's list and ebay?) Thanks! ;)
I am reminded of Winston Churchills's reply to a woman who chided him for ending a sentence with a preposition. He replied, "This is the kind of nonsense up with which I will not put."

I Googled the difference between antique and vintage, consulted two different dictionaries and discovered that there is no authoritative word that describes the difference.
That is also true among antiques dealers and dealers in vintage items.

I understand your frustration. I am irked beyond reason by people who say "irregardless" or "irrespective" or who use the word "impact," which is a noun, as a verb.

However, Enlgish is a living language and the meaning of words changes. Who would have thought in 1950 that the word gay would mean something other than ecstatically happy by the year 2000?

Your venting is fine, but if I were you, I would find something that makes an eternal difference to get upset over. froggyintexas

Agree froggee - especially in this era of the language used by many of the younger generations! Not only is a lot of it VULGAR, but the slang is not understandable.

Besides, after just watching the nightly news & what the WHOLE population of Joplin MO is going thru - it seems a little insignificant what is proper or not proper terminology to describe a THING.

May God be with everyone in that area. The pics remind me of pics I remember seeing of WWII England. So sad.

I don't think the 100 years applies to all items...I heard once from an expert on public television that for jewelry the time requirement is less because of it being convertible (sold for gold content or destroyed and stones used elsewise) and less likely to continue in its original state.

It probably does depend on which "expert" you talk to... :)

I'm with you. We learned in Antique class that if it's not 100 years old, then... And in England if it is not 300 years old then no antique. I guess people think if it's over 50 then it is old. Yipes... if that were true, I'm really over the hill. LOL

In N. Texas and Southern Oklahoma we have been under storm watches and tornado warnings so often that it is almost routine. We are wondering now whether sometime this summer--provided we survive--we should build a tornado shelter. I have an inside closet, but if a tornado like the one that hit Joplin hit my house, that closet would be useless. The weather forecast for tomorrow is that the threat will be the worst we have had.

People who don't believe in climate change, look around.
All the quilts we've made are going to be needed for victims of the storms. froggyintexas
