I have one of those irons. Hav e left it on many times with no problem, but it is getting old so now I unplug it. Actually I have 2 reasons, it uses electricity even if it is not hot and if I had a fire in my apartment, it would affect over 300 residents of my retirement home apartment building. Should take about 2 minutes for the alarm to go off, then everybody would be evacuated and the FD would come. I would feel like digging a hole for myself.

Upon removing the cover of the ironing board, I was surprised to see how much melt there was - without showing the burn on the top!!! Scarey!! So, Please unplug your irons!!

Wow. So glad you are ok! I have one too, with the automatic shut off. I'm taking the advice of shutting it off myself.

    Thanks for the warning!

I'm like QuiltnNan - mine is plugged into a surge protector and every time I move away from it I flipped the protector off. Irons are scary things - learned that from my Home Ec teacher almost 50 years ago.

I always unplug when not in use. Also make sure you turn the water off to your washing machine every time you use it, especially when you go on vacation.

I unplug my iron and I always make sure my clothes dryer is off before I leave the house. Glad you are safe.

WOW How scarey. I have always had a fear of a fire starting from an iron which is why I unplug when I am done. I have this beaded bracelet that was given to me and when I turn my iron on I put the bracelet on. If I still have the bracelet on and I am no longer sewing, I know I have left the iron on.
