I used to buy Singers ( from early 70's to early 90's), but the last one I purchased was terrible. Since then I have purchased Brother machines, both the top of the line and the ones from Walmart for the grandkids to use. Love the Brother machines!

you need older than the 70s - the last good Singers were before the Touch 'n Sew.

Wanted to put a post on here re Janome Memory Craft 6000 because a friend gave hers to her daughter -now she woukd like it back . I'm not familiar with it features so was going to web when I decided to read first.
Maybe someone would tell me their opinion of the machine since we discuss it often. Told her to trade girl with older machine.

    I would choose a Brother .

Before I bought the better machine I have now, I had a Sears machine and was happy with it except it didn't have stitches I wanted on it. It was a sturdy machine, and never really gave me trouble

If I had to choose between a Brother and Singer, I would pick a Brother. Singers unless they are older, are not a machine I would recommend to anyone.

I didn't read the entire thread so this may have been suggestea d. Try yur local freecycle or shopgoodwill.com. I just found a machine by asking if anyone had one on freecycle. It is an older model White, but it is all metal and a good one. I wouldnt have a new Singer either. Brother 6000(somme other letter goes at the end) has a good rating, but I personally don't know about them.

I agree! A better machine from a dealer that offers you support.

Well, it looks like I'm going to be the only to say that I have a new Singer Confidence Stylist, and so far, it is working great, and I love it!
