I discovered this method totally but accident but it works wonderfully!!! Cut binding 2 inches wide and as long as needed - NOT on the bias unless you are doing curves. I piece together by crossing the pieces at a 45 degree angle, right sides together, and sewing from the top left to the bottom right. Trim and you have a diagonal seam that will not bunch up. Move your needle position as far to the LEFT as it will go - usually makes about a 3/4 inch seam. Begin in the middle of a side, leave about 1 to 2 inches loose - this will be used to fold over later - and sew on the WRONG side with the left needle position. Miter the corners as explained in other posts. When you reach your beginning spot, fold over the "tail" you started with about 1/2 inch and place the end over this fold. Move your needle to the CENTER position and fold the binding to the RIGHT side, and fold under approx. 1/4 inch. (I don't even pin it much anymore other than to start.) Using a stiletto or a seam ripper point, move the edge of the top over the stitching just to cover it as you sew. This method puts the stitching on the binding neatly on the back and makes for a beautiful quilt binding. And it is the easiest way I've found yet!!

Bring the backing over to the front of the quilt and use as binding, easy to slip stitch down.
