Hi: I have a fused ankle, but bought bought a pair of SAS shoes which are entirely made in San Antonio Texas. Find a shoe store that sells them. A bit expensive, but comfortable and wonderful.

We grew up paycheck to paycheck. The one thing my dad insisted on was good quality shoes for his kids. We grew up wearing StrideRites. To this day i only buy good fitting, quality shoes....expensive? Can be, but oh so worth it!!

I agree that you should find a she store tat specializes in good quality shoes. Get fitted for your foot and purchase accordingly. Get the best shoe that you can afford for your feet.

While shopping for shoes last week, i was curious about how much the StrideRites cost these days. (Childrens). I saw toddler shoes for $54. Lucky is the child whose parents value taking care of their childrens feet by instilling the value of good shoes! Thanks Dad! Your legacy lives on!

I recommend and use SAS shoes all the time they are very comfortable.

I have great luck with New Balance. They are comfortable and never seem to wear out.

I only wear Heflinger Clogs made with a cork bottom and wool top. They are going to be on sale by shop says coming up very soon. Only day of the year they go on sale.

I am going to be the "odd ball" here. When I am inside, I never wear shoes. If it is very cold, I wear slipper socks.
I have never been comfortable when my feet are encased in shoes. I guess I should count myself as very fortunate
my feet never hurt. I think this is a pattern that started when I was a child. I have a pair of slip on shoes at every outside
door, so that I can slip them on to go outside. I just love shoes, but on someone else. Before you ask, when I get dressed up as for church or an outing I do wear shoes

Find yourself a shoe store that does proper fittings. Know your own feet. There are plenty of excellent shoe brands listed here, but not all will suit every type of foot so don't just go by brand. If possible, find more than one shoe store that properly fits feet and try on as many shoes as you can.

On off the wall suggestion - if it doesn't work, at least it's cheap. I have high arches and about 7 years ago got plantar faciaitis (sp?) 6 months before a trip to China. After staying off my feet to let it heal I still ended up with cortisone shots. Got through the trip okay but for the next 5 years I lived in NothinZ - a Crocs knock off. I liked them better than Crocs, they seemed a little softer so they rose to meet my arch better, so soft on the heel... Crocs work too. However, neither one fits if you have narrow feet (I am a B or sometimes C width), and they are both ugly and not helped by the thermal socks I tend to wear them with. The ugly original syles actually work best, the new 'fashionable' ones have to thin a sole to really do the job. When I had to go out looking nice - these were not what I wore. NothinZ are hard to find in stores, Crocs are easier but both are available on line. (If Crocs don't fit, neither will NothingZ)

My diabetes was getting out of control at the time and I would tell people that NothinZ and Water aerobics literally saved my life.

A few years ago I ordered a pair of Birkenstocks from QVC. I had such high expectations for them. I had to send them back...I have long toes and my toes hung off the front. I was so disappointed.

Be warned... for years and years I always went barefoot around the house..some times for days at a time. Fast forward to two years ago when I went to a foot doctor and he xrayed my feet, he told me I have clapsed arches and arthritis in my feet. He was surprised I was not having any pain. Well now it's two years later and I NOW feel the pain. I hurt a little with every step I take. Now I am only shoeless when I am in bed or in the shower! If only I could turn back the clock....
