What a wonderful idea to commemorate Flat Stanley's visit to TX. Great quilt, I'm sure your great niece will treasure it.

I did this about three years ago for a great granddaughter who lives in Florida. We live in PA Dutch country. Stanley went to the LQS, sat on a buggy w/horse (which is used for picture taking), sat among the fabrics and finished quilts. I wrote about the Amish folks, their lack of shoes in the summer, outhouses, no auto driving, etc., and lastly made a small quilt w/Stanley in the center. Emily still has the little quilt. It was great fun for both of us.

We took Flat Stanley to the Gator Bowl a few years ago. He bought pencils for all the second graders at my niece's school. He got his picture taken with the Texas Tech mascot and cheerleaders at the parade. It was fun. That Stanley sure gets around(0: I wish I'd been a quilter then. What a great idea!

the year Flat Stanley came to our house, he went to Europe with us. It was surprising to see how many people knew about him. He got a standing ovation on our British Airways flight from London to Houston. He went home with lots of pictures with the locals and lots of memories.

Look how creative you are! Flat Stanley in a quilt is a great excuse idea for a quilt! Even without F.S. it's a great quilt.

I kind of felt bad that we apparently don't have a very exciting social life, and I know how much fun my own kids had with Flat Stanley when they were in school.

We were given a challenge two months ago at our Project Linus meeting to come up with a donation quilt that fulfilled what we envisioned with "Everything is bigger in Texas". That's when I started drawing out a grid to piece together a cowboy boot and cowboy hat. I had been working on that quilt while Flat Stanley was here, and thought I must be getting desperate taking pics of him with the quilt to include in the journal I wrote for him. I wish I had gotten this quilt done much sooner for my great niece, but I think she will still like it when it finally makes it's way to Indiana.
