I too love the phase Cozy Quilter! I guess that is me. If something is not right and I can live with I leave it. If I know it will bug me, I redo it.

Several people I know think I am crazy. One of my first quilts had four borders, one of which was 1/4" wide. I was mitering the corners, and matching the print in one of the borders. I ripped that baby off three times before I was happy with it. And this was a queen size quilt. All this to say, I tend to be a perfectionist. My mom, a home ec. teacher, taught me to sew. If a zipper was not right, I had to rip it out, and resew until I got it right. And one of those projects was a hand-sewn zipper! (before invisible zippers)

I now teach basic quilting. I have relaxed a little, seeing the fun of others as they learn to quilt. No way will I put on them the weight of perfectionism, and end their joy in completing a quilt! Yes, I teach technique, and we try to match corners, etc.

But the joy of finishing a quilt and seeing someone snuggled in the result of your work far outweighs the need for perfectionism for me.

All this to say, I go for 'cozy quilter' when I teach.
(Sometimes I still get picky with myself  )

    I'm a cozy quilter also!
I have very poor fine motor coordination in my hands so will never make anything perfect and I can live with that and I hope the people I make a quilt for understand that too.
Get on that horse when you look at my stuff and it looks pretty good!

I want my quilts to look nice. This does not mean all my points will be pointy or that all my seams will ALWAYS match. I do try to see to it that this happens, but, as my husband is fond of saying to me, "It's handmade." I try to do my handstitching small and even - but hey! if there are stray rogue stitches then so be it. I have a quilter friend who lives to have perfect quilts - she needs the accolades - I don't - I'd rather for people to have the quilts and enjoy them.

Maybe I should write a quilt book "How to Fudge your way to Perfection." LOL, everybody tells me how perfect my quilts are. They are oh so wrong! I figured out fairly early on how to make things match up perfectly where it counts and ignore the rest. Everybody thought the log cabin I made for my husband was just soooo perfect, until I showed them the logs that are fat on one end and skinny on the other end.

Don't wash that fabric! Shrinkage and puckering are your friends!! LOL

I am improving a little with each year but I still have problems with free motion and binding. I will never be perfect.
I take heart from Eleanor Burns who shows her mistakes sometimes. Just watch her website show on block of the month barn quilts. It is not edited and she does show her mistakes. She has been quilting for over 25 years.

I am working on a block called "Crossed Roads". It has about 8 points in each block. They are not perfect, but I let it slide because, it is just for me and I can live with it. I am not sure how fussy I would be if I were making it for someone else though.

I make used quilts. If all the points match, bonus! If not, I don't point out to anyone the ones that don't and think about how I can improve that step the next time. Well, my DH gets to listen to all my woes, but he understands. :)

My goal in quilting is to enjoy the process and to keep learning. I am totally blown away by the talent around me here, but you don't intimidate me. ;-)
My DH gets to hear all my woes, too, but he was the one to tell me not to point out all the boo-boos to other people--especially the recipient! And he's right. I made a quilt for my daughter for Christmas, and I completely messed up the binding, but she didn't know, and I didn't tell her, and she was absolutely thrilled with it. I do try to improve, and realize that improvement will come with practice, so I just plan to keep practicing...which means buying more fabric!

Thank you for the term "cozy quilter". I love beautiful fabrics, usually non traditional for quilting purposes. I don't get too crazy about perfect quilting. SharonL
