My granddaughter threw hers away when she decided it was wore out. Never said a word until later.

Every gift of a quilt from me is a gift from my heart. I love it when people love their quilts to death! Was a little disappointed when I saw the step-grandsons quilt was never used, but put in a cedar chest so he could have it when he got older and had kids..... it has been there for probably 16 years. He is now in his twenties..... :(

oopsd, not unhappy that he is in his twenties. Unhappy that the quilt has been in jail so long with no loving hugs

It will be a year this February that I have been making quilts and now Bow Tucks purses. I've made 4 full size quilts, 1 lap quilt & 1 baby quilt that I've given away as gifts. I have 6 Bow Tucks purses that are to be Christmas gifts...with 2 of those under construction right now. I do like to see the gifts appreciated, but what happens after I give them away is not up to me. I gave a full sized quilt with horses on it to a "horse loving" friend and she pleasantly surprised me by hanging it on her bedroom wall as decoration. My thinking is that when you give it away as a gift it's no longer your's to be concerned about.

I give quilts because I love the whole process. The people I give them to know how much work goes into them and generally appreciate them. I know the first one I made for my daughter went to college with her. She would wear it wrapped around her in the dorm and later in her apartment. I know to her it was a piece of love. She wore it like a hug. I have made her another but the first one is still hanging in there. This is a compliment to me that it means so much to her. I know the one I gave to my parents keeps them warm in the winter, as they have commented on it. I can't ask for anything more. :-D

I agree. I quilt simply because I love it and I give them away with love. What they do with it after that is totally up to them.

My only complaint is when I give a quilt away and it is turned around and donated to Goodwill. Yes, that happened once with an acquaintance. I made her new baby a beautiful quilt that I even posted on this board. A few weeks later I saw it in the back of her van in a box marked Goodwill. I was so very hurt! I guess it did not match the baby's nursery. I hope someone at Goodwill fell in love with it.

I made a quilt for my "step-granddaughter" when she turned 13. In my heart I knew the marriage of her father and my daughter was troubled. Within two years they were divorced and I have not seen this lovely young lady since. I hope the gift of the quilt will always remind her of the fun we had together and I hope she feels the love that I had tucked inside the quilt while working on it.
