My lovely, kind, helpful postal worker gave me a sample of all their mailers and how much they cost. She advised that they do have a Priority Mail mailing envelope made out of tyvek (it's tuff!) and it goes by weight. This would be the cheapest way to go. I love my postal employees, Betty, Marilyn and Patti.

Would probably be the USPS worst offender, as I often re-construct a box,
use alot of tape, etc. But my area has the best clerks in the world, are
never offensive, and so I am one who is happy paying whatever the cost.
And, yes, I ship ALOT of books, fabric, quilts, etc. etc. every month.

I'm still waiting for delivery of an order that was shipped on the 18th. . . from UPS (the guys in the brown trucks, not the postal service). Haven't seen any complaints about them, and I'm not complaining. If it's going by ground it takes a while. Give the USPS a break. Things like this will only ruin your day if you let them. It's all a matter of attitude.

Here's a tip. fold the fabric smoothly and put in a ziploc plastic bag. seal it almost to the end . lay it on the floor and kneel on it to release the air . while still kneeling on it close it the rest of the way. Da-da you have a vacuum bag and the fabric is half that thickness and fits in the flat rate. I also use tape over the opening so it doesn't open.

I have one of those manual vacuum sealers. The kind where you buy the baggies made for vacuum seal & a pump. It really does take the air out of things and makes them real flat plus it protects whatever is inside from moisture. Not expensive to buy either.

Yeah, the lady at our PO told me months ago that I had to redo my box because I taped over the ends too, well, I always tape over the ends so nothing falls out in the event of damage to the ends....she said it all had to fit perfect in the box too, she is no longer there and since then no one else has said anything about it, I just sent one a few weeks ago that was bulging and taped....

Maybe they are trying to make up for the fact that more and more mail is being conducted via the internet, such as by email or paying bills online and they need the money however they can get it. I mailed a manila envelope the other day and was charged 20 cents for a piece of tape to cover up the metal clasp so it wouldn't catch in the machinery. I had just picked up the papers and didn't have tape with me. Not a new law, she said, they are just being forced to enforce it now. They are also griping about getting my mail from my box so my grandson can bring it to me. Health problems sometimes prohibit me from getting there myself.
