    I'm taking notes on all the replies :) I always do the double-front-loaders on my large quilts then line dry... but I know you said you didn't have a line...

    I have a large front loaded that you can wash a queen size quilt but anything any larger I would take to the laundry mat, I don't think you would get the water circulating like you should. I think your quilt is beautiful. :)

    I'd use Ivory powder. That's what I used when my DD was just born. It's so gentle, and you don't have to worry about the bubbles like with Dreft.

    yes, the extra large washing machines are great for this.
    use woolite.... or a baby soap.
    you can spread it out on a sheet (or 2) on your lawn to dry. or someone's trampoline (again with something under it) i've draped some over my fence and gate...thus getting 2 'lines' to hang them on so the weight doen't pull the quilt.
