My mom made a yoyo quilt like yours and I really think they look better without the back. It is hard to keep it even unless you stitch each one. Leave it as is for age purposes. What a treasure, indeed,

Love the yo yos. I have started making some. I have about100 out of over 2,000 to make. They are so easy to do while riding in the car. Even my GS loves making them. I have many of the Clover plates in all sizes. So much easier they what they did years ago. I also make all sizes[especially for Christmas] to put on foam cones for trees. Also pastel ones to cover a styro foam egg for Easter. There are so many patterns for crafts[I have 2 sets to make clowns] and all kinds of tree decorations. So much fun!!! Yours is great.

i've always thought that the gathered side was the top but I must admit you can see the fabric much better from the other side. good question, maybe some one will tell us.
This interesting. It seems to me that either side would be acceptable -- and it's YOUR quilt.

I do have a question (please pardon my ignorance {{blush}}). Others have mentioned backing. Just how would one go about attaching a backing to the yo-yos; and would it be quilted in any way?

I would use a contrasting sheet - then lay the yo-yo quilt face down on a table or whatever - take a needle & thread and tack EACH yo-yo to the sheet which would be the back side after you've finished. Don't know how I would finish the edges - maybe turn under and hand stitch all around the outside??

It's a beautiful quilt and well worth preserving. Not sure how though. Do you have a group in the states dedicated to old quilts and how to conserve them like we do in the UK? It's part of the Quilters Guild of the British Isles (I think that's the name, I'm not a member) anyway they would give you advice surely.

I was wondering that same thing. Both ways are pretty, I think.
