IMHO Have your electric sockets at an easy reach. Mine are all at floor level and I could no longer get down to switch things off at the wall. (and I have to admit there was often too much stuff in the way!) I have resorted to using a remote conrolled extension lead fixed on the side of a cuboard. Take your time - don't rush the planning of your room - you want to enjoy using it right from the start.

A great book with lots of ideas is "Creating Your Perfect Quilting Space" by Lois L. Hallock.

hard surface floor, lots and lots of lighting, outlets at counter/table height, a sitting, planning table area, small dorm frig, single-cup coffee pot, several waste baskets, cable tv hook-up, enclosed (like a closet) storage for your fabric and shelves, shelves, shelves, and finally, a nearby bathroom.

Make sure your cabinets are built-in, and as far as lighting goes, just make sure there is no glare. Hmmmm I like carpet too, but my chair has wheels so better for me if no carpet. My cutting table is made with six cabinets under them for storage, the top is a solid door bought in clearance section from hardware store, I refinished it and trimmed it, fits two cuttingmats that are size 36x30 each. I love it. Anyway have fun and make it your own personnal space.

Anyone have any DO's or DON'T's suggestions.....maybe from your experience with such an addition? I want it to be my dream room....but I must be as frugal as possible. I am soooo excited!
