With the pinwheel project, I had some Moda charm packs and I needed some plain white. I bought Moda's white charms and they were not quite the same size as my printed ones. I would have thought they would have been the same. Learned a lesson....from now on I think I will be cutting my own.

I cut my own usually. Sometimes it's just so much easier to purchase the jelly rolls because they are already coordinated. Same with the charm packs.

I done that only for scrap quilting. Didn't think of it in connection with jelly rolls. I'll have to try that. Thanks for the tip. :)

I agree with them being too expensive but I don't cut any leftover fabric... I don't know how I might end up using it so why precut?

Hi rntraveler.I only pre cut a few jelly roll strips because I use them a lot.Other sizes & shapes are cut as needed.Found I didn't use many charms, so don't pre cut them or the 10" sqs either.It's all in the size/shapes we use.

Thank you. I went shopping yesterday and found that some charm packs held more than others. This comfused me as to why they wouldn't all have had the same no. of squares, It would seem that when pattern called for a charm pack or two, you will either be short or have too many for the project.

It's a great idea. Do the same for Blocks from scraps. A group of my quilting friends got together and had a potluck strip party one summer. 14 of us brought 25 2 1/2 strips and place them on a rack and after dinner, we pick out 25 of the ones we liked.

I cut my own. The only precut I buy is fat quarters and I would buy yards if I could afford it.
