    Thanks so much for saying this. I love the clerks at the Post Office in Sherman, Texas. They have always gone out of their way to be helpful.

    I'll check with my local PO but they HAD changed the rule, but it was my understanding that they changed it back. I'll get a copy of the new regulation and post it.
    Also, what if you printed off the postage online and just put the envelope in a mailbox?? I think that they'd take it then.... Just a thought.
    I'll post again as soon as I get the new regs.

    Yes, you can use the padded envelopes. They are so much better!!! You can fill them easier. I do have to say, that my post office is wonderful and the lady that works there is the best person in the world. She is such a sweetie and always full of smiles and I wish I could clone her for everyone!!!

    I can see why they say there going broke because they charge to much forever, Iv really stopped shipping alot of things I buy online shipping usually seems to be a little cheaper

    well, even after reading all the postings on this thread, I still think it's just wonderful that we can stick a stamp on a letter, drop it in a box, and a few days later it's in the exact spot that we wrote on the envelope. Doesn't matter where that spot is, our letter (or box or card) is delivered. It would be a sadder world without our postal service!

    I really appreciated our "person behind the counter" when I used one of my DH's stamps from his collection without realizing.. I really needed to know which stamp I put on the envelope so I could find a replacement.. She actually dug through the outgoing mail and found my envelope so I could find out. I know that not every postal worker would be that helpful, but some are great, and do a wonderful job for us.

    Yep, everything we use or need is going to cost us more and more... This life will never get easier or cheaper than it is today.

    in the link that was supplied to us the page with the prices to europe was missing.

    here's a question that nobody ever asks and answers: is it cheaper to discard the priority mail boxes altogether and wrap stuff ourselves? i think it is. not everything has priority. so if we're not selling, but just sending, that may be the way to go. i don't care how long it takes for me to get a piece of fabric or a book from someone. if it costs measurably less, that's what we should do. also, book rates are often cheaper than priority. does anyone know the answer to that?

    Except now I have to go find a box or an envelope and hopefully have packing tape on hand in order to ship it to you via Parcel Post. And at a certain point and weight, the prices sort of converge. Then as the weight increases, the price difference expands again.

    I only ship Priority, unless it's 3 FQ's or less, as I already have 500 envelope that I can cram that in to go 1st class.

    And that goes for personal stuff or things I'm selling. The convenience is worth it to me. YMMV.

    First Class is up to 13 ounces. Priority is anything over that. Although you can send lighter mail by Priority, it won't get there any faster. But you will have free packing material.
