Rules are meant to be broken. If it works, don't fix it.

I would think unless you wanted the extra width or lenght definetly on the sides or lenght it doesn't matter. Diane C

I was taught that it didn't matter which way you put on the borders...unless it was a wall hanging. Something about helping the quilt hang better if the top and bottom went on last. (?)

Whatever works best for you. I don't think there is a right or wrong way.

I didn't know there was a specific way to do this. If it looks good then it must have been done right.

I sew all my borders together and then sew them to the quilt. This way I only have deal with the quilt top once on each four side in the sewing machine. I don't care which two goes on first, ends or sides.

There is only one sin in quilting......... the quilt police!

And for whatever reason the quilt police feel there have to be rules ignore them if they are around you.

THERE RULES are meant to be broken and keep them annoyed with us.

sometimes when the length is quite a bit longer, I will do whichever way I need to do to save from piecing the borders.

I do not follow any rule for adding first and second.......
