My husband was baptized and confirmed at a small Mission Church in St. Xavier Montana on a Holy Thursday about 12years ago, At the time he was given a quilt, When he passed away in 2003 we had our own service at the cemetery, We did not have flowers on the casket, We had his quilt from the church, It meant so much to everyone because they knew where it came from and what it represented, Our local priest gave the blessing , no one thought it was out of place,

I think that's a great idea of covering in the quilt that belonged to a deceased son.
My sister lost a son the end of April and is really grieving his loss.....
he had lots of quilts that she could cuddle in.

In La.at my mother's funeral, we displayed 2 of my mother's quilts-a small 30+ year old one she made for her grandson-very well-used, and a larger one on a quilt stand. They showed that her hands were never idle and were a loving tribute to her.

Sounds like a good idea, I am not having a funeral, oldest DD will do whatever she wants with quilts and fabrics I leave behind.

When Mom passed in Sept."09" we displayed several of her hand made quilts on stands even on tables. We put a smaller one in the casket with her hands holding it (which was removed before the burial) like when Dad passed he held his Bible. There were 6 throws with bible themes that friends and family gave instead of flowers. Each of us 6 kids got one.

When my mother past, there were nine quilts at her funeral people had sent. They were just as you described. I thougt it was beautiful and they do last longer than flowers.

I think this is a wonderful idea. Will have to tell my daughter and son about it.
Several years ago I went to calling hours of a woman I had known for many years. In addition to her sons, grandchildren and brothers & sisters in the receiving line, there were her nieces and nephews and their spouses. And there were afghans she had crocheted. One of the nephews was my grandson in law.
