    Usually more expensive I think, but the value is in the convenience. Fat Quarters are a great stash builder, There are unlimited patterns for Fat quarter quilts online. Great for lap quilts, wall hangings, placemats, and baby quilts, bindings for small quilts, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc.
    Of course you can always make your own fat quarters from your yardage. Stack several yardage pieces and cut them into 18"x22" squares..
