1st. I was wondering if anyone has any great sites for applique tutes for a complete newbie to it? I need all the help this woman can find. lol I have always loved/wanted a sunbonnet sue quilt. I would love to try to make just a small one to give it my best shot.

2nd. My grandma had bought all the fabric for a wedding ring quilt to make for my mother. As it turned out she was never able to make the quilt. My dear 77 year old mom asked me if I could please make her the quilt in her favorite color of yellow. My question is..how hard is it to make one of these quilts for a newbie? Is it worth trying, or should I not attempt it at this time?

I love this site for all the great coversation, support, help, advice and ideas. My only trouble with the ideas...is..most are just dreams right now. lol You all are so crafty and creative.

    1. Check out You Tube & here for tutes on applique.
    2. I have never done one, so I am no help there, but some one here will.
Hope this has helped a little :-)

wow, you sound like me ... don't start with the easy stuff LOL. I'm no help though, I don't applique much and I've never made a double wedding ring quilt. If you look at www.quiltpossible.com Ebony has some videos showing how to sew the double wedding ring. Good luck

Eleanor Burns has a simpler pattern for the Double Wedding Ring quilt. The DWR quilt can be somewhat hard to do. If I were making one today I would use Ms Burns method. There are other versions of a simpler patterns. If you are confident you CAN do one. They are beautiful.

    Go to http://quiltinaday.com/theater/library.html

Click on Egg Money Quilts and find the video for Double Wedding Ring. I think this method is the easiest I've seen for that pattern.

That site also show many good vidoes for applique blocks. I use her method all the time and love it.

For the double wedding ring quilt you can do it as a beginner, there is a way! Go to http://www.quiltsmart.com/Pages/mo_d...dding_ring.htm
it is more like applique and you will have to buy the special interfacing, book and template, but it is doable. And worth it for a special mom. I have made a few of the blocks and it is pretty easy. Hugs, Eliz

For the Sun Bonnet Sue quilt I did, I used the Eleanor Burn's method & loved loved loved it. Then I took it to a quilt show with me & had her sign it! But they are alot of fun. I embelished mine with pearls & lace & I just think it's so cute for such a quick quilt. I've also done two double wedding ring quilts & I too was a relatively new quilter when I did my first one. To me it wasn't hard. But for some reason I loose interest in them after the top is made. I am hand quilting one now for my DH & it's a king size so I have my work cut out for me. Everyone is afraid of the curved piecing & I didn't have any trouble with it. Only thing I think I would say was to handle the curved piecing with care & be careful not to pull or tug on it. But mine fell right into place when sewing it. Hope this helps
