Help, does any one out there know of a method that you quilt your design and then fold up the backing and trim the front but some how sew the side seams up and over to form the binding ? I thought I had the pdf file saved but can't find it.

I do this all the time. Some people call it cheater binding. I do this on my charity quilts. I square up the front, trim it all around, then cut my backing to 1" if I want a 1/2" binding. I press the backing to fold up to the batting/front sandwich, then press this folded edge to the front, miter the corners and stitch it down. Very simple. That is all there is to it. If you want a different size binding just double that measurement when cutting the backing fabric.

I've done this before too. It's like half the work is already done for you. If it wears out, you can always go back and put another binding on.

i've never tried this. the only thing that i can see as a drawback is how you leave the back wider when trimming after quilting? that seems tricky in my mind.
