    Default A charity quilt

This is one of my favorite quick quilts. It begins with cutting the 4 corners off a theme fabric (usually a large scale kid print), sandwiching and quilting that, then adding strips around that center. the very first one took me 2 1/2 hours not counting the binding. This one is going to a 94 year old in the local low income senior housing. Unfortunately, my shoulder is hurting, so I could not hang the quilt to show it off better.

PS My center piece is usually cut at 18" x 40"

Great idea for making quick quilts! Nice of you to make it for this senior - it will be greatly loved and appreciated. I'll try your method one of these days! Thanks for the idea!

I love it. But I'm curious with that method, how do you manage (is it a miter if it's not 45 degrees?) to seam the corners on the borders? It's quilt as you go?

It is quilt as you go. The corners are not mitered. I merely lap each strip over the previous one (sew and flip). The result looks MUCH harder than it actually is. The exact shape of the triangles cut off does not matter, but all 4 should be the same. You can do it with random scrappy strips, but I prefer it this way. I have probably made 20 quilts (18 for babies) with this method. Each one has been a hit. Some panels work well for this pattern, but I generally use large scale overall prints. I made one for a friend's DGGS. He would not nap without it.

I did one without the corners being cut. It was boring.

Very pretty and I am sure it will make her feel warm. Good of you to make it. First time I have seen this pattern.
