I am having a problem with my machine. It is a Husqvarna Mega Quilter, the top looks really good but the bottom thread is all bunched up. Looks like a mess. I have it loaded on my grace frame. I've never used it to free motion quilt, I'm trying to do that now. It worked fine on a straight stitch.....I'm frustrated....

When that happens to me it is because I forget to lower the presser foot on my 15" Bailey!

I am not sure about this because it could be a couple things. But you could have the tension on the material sandwich too tight. It should be tight but not stretched too tight to use on the frame. The other thing could be a loose thread under the pressure plate. Also a bent needle. Sorry just giving you some options to check.

My machine is very tempermental and if I don't wind the bobbin just right or feed the thread the right way my stitches just look horrible. I sometimes have to thread my bobbin several times before it is right. I have even pulled all the thread off my bobbin and started all over.

    I know your frustration

When my old Singer machine used to do that it was always because I hadn't threaded it correctly. I hope you find the reason, soon, it's very frustrating when that happens. :?

Try this. Pull the bobbin thread up to the top, before you begin your free motion quilting. Once the bobbin thread is pulled to the top, hold onto it tightly for the first handful of stitches. Then proceed with your free motion as normal.

Messed up bobbin thread usually means the top thread is not right. When you find the solution write it down in a notebook. You won't remember next time it happens. I never do. My notebook has saved me many frustrating hours.

I got it working. It was a mixture of many things...first of all the tension was off. The frame was to high and the top was pulled to tight!

Now off to practice! LOVE IT, I'm so excited.

Thanks everyone for all of your suggestions :D
