Question Details on New Companion Rotary?

    Hello all.
I am thrilled to discover this platform and hope someone might have details I haven't been able to find. My great aunt's "New Companion Rotary" treadle sewing machine has become mine. The serial number is A249158. It needs much cleaning and restoration, but is in good overall condition. My plan is to begin using it once I've cared for it.
I have been unable to locate any details on the history of this line. I would love to find a manual. Do any of you have the same one or know something about it? I've never found even a photo that states exactly "New Companion ROTARY." I've repeatedly tried to attach some photos, but keep getting a failed upload message so clearly I'm a newbie and am missing something obvious (they're JPG and under the file size limit).
Thank you for any insights you can provide!

Hi and welcome. I had never seen or heard of this machine, so a quick google search turned up that it was manufactured by New Home which later became Janome. I've included a link to the ISMACS website (a great resource for all vintage/antique machines) which may have a manual for your machine.

Welcome to Quilting Board. For some unknown reason, when one goes to post an image, it says the limit is 5MB, however the limit is actually 2MB. A lot of people have trouble posting pictures here. I will post instructions below.

I do not think your machine is a New Home made machine. The New Home made New Companion is a vibrating shuttle machine. Since it is badged with Rotary in its name, that would rule that out. New Home did some "A" models (which the serial numbers would have started with) I believe those were vibrating shuttle machines as well. Also the New Home model A's have more digits in the serial number. While looking for some early rotary treadle machines I happened across this page that says it is a National A2, which would seem to indicate that there was a National A1 or simply National A. https://tumorfarmer.blogspot.com/202...le-sewing.html
Although doing some further research, it appears the National Model A is a vibrating shuttle as well.

We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf and on an ipad at Posting Pictures From an iPad

Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button. As shown at Standard Sewing Machine Co. Paragon

I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures.
    https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...p-location.jpg

Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of quilt block ID?

Another way to post pictures can be found at 2021/2022, 2.5” Birthday Swap
And how to use an ipad to post pictures can be found at Uploading photos and Posting Pictures From an iPad

Or simply - Make sure pictures are smaller than 2MB
    Click on red "Reply" button
Click on the paper clip icon
Click browse - choose picture/s. (only 5 allowed per post)
Once they show up as being loaded, Scroll over to the right side and click on "Upload"
After the pictures show up as being attached, you can close that window and go back to the screen to finish posting your post. This sometimes takes a while and is indicated in this image by the red arrow. https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...8-uploaded.jpg

    Some additional notes -
The photos generally need to be reduced to less than 2MB in size. I have heard of people sending an email to themselves as it will ask if you want to reduce the size.

I have an android phone and when I tried to reply on Quilting Board while in mobile view None of the options for adding pictures was available. However, there is an option down at the bottom left of the page that is for Full Site when I tapped on "Full Site" It then looked like the way it looks on my lap top. So it would have the Red Reply and the Go Advanced options.

    Do Not Preview post.

There is an archived page for National Rotary machines at https://web.archive.org/web/20220820...otary_Machines If you click on the thumbnails, it looks like most will open to a larger image. I tried to find a needlebar archive for the Standard company, but couldn't find.

ISMACS has some manuals for Standard Rotary machines at https://ismacs.net/standard-sewing-m...pany/home.html

Thank you so much. I have tried all of these options for uploading the photos and repeatedly get an "upload of file failed" message. They are 1 MB and JPG files so everything checks off the requirements. I've followed all the steps, tried uploading a single rather than multiple files, tried using a different browser, and alternated between a smartphone and a laptop. Every time I receive the same message on the upload window. I build website as part of my job so tech issues usually are no problem, but I cannot figure this out. If I ever can get it to work, I'm sure the photos of my machine will help! I appreciate your feedback.

Yes, indeed picture would help identify your machine. I'm sending you a PM.

I'm glad I could help. I'm looking at them now. There is a "Pop Pedal Quiz" on another forum, but at first look through, I'm not seeing yours. I know I have seen a machine like yours, with very similar if not exact decals, but just don't remember which machine they were on LOL.

Funny on me. It sure looks like the machine with slightly different decals on the link to tumorfarmer blogspot. The shape, the stitch regulator and the shape of the plate under the spool pin. Let me see what I can find for a close manual.

Found one for an electric Eldredge B at https://ismacs.net/national/national...n-manuals.html It will at least help with the threading.

Can't edit my last post. That should be the manual for Eldredge Improved Rotary B manual on the ISMACS link. It will give an error if you try to open in new tab, but if you click on the name, it will open it in a new tab. There is also a B long shuttle, which won't help much. As far as dating it, I'm not much help.

PS looking at the tumorfarmer blogspot link, it indicated was like a Damascus Grand. and there is a manual for it at https://archive.org/details/instruct...chine/mode/1up
