Freezer paper piecing question

Hello Everyone,
I have a question regarding freezer paper piecing.
There was a little demo today at our guild on the process. As the presenter was on a time limit, and many had never seen the technique, I did not get a chance to ask my question of the presenter.
I understand the basic concept and how it works. What I don't understand is if you stitch right close beside the fold line vs on the actual line like traditional piecing, when you go to align pieces later (assuming that there are more than one piece to the pattern), will the pieces align without making the pattern off?
Thanks for any help you can give!

I've used the freezer paper method a few times, on easier designs. Since you fold the paper exactly on the line, you stitch right up next to the fold. It's basically the same as stitching on the line and them folding the fabric over in the amount of take up. (I hope that makes sense). I've never had an issue with the next pieces lining up or the pattern being off. I have had an issue of the freezer paper becoming unstuck with a more complicated design. So something to be aware of while working.
