How do you make an "I Spy" quilt? Anyone have a picture?

I have a new granddaughter that I would like to make an i spy quilt for. She is only one month old which gives me plenty of time to collect the fabrics I need. I've seen it mentioned here and wondered how to piece it together. Does anyone have a picture as I am a visual learner?!

Start collecting those novelty fabrics!!! I use a 6 1/2 square ruler to fussy cut the best part of the novelty fabrics and then frame them with 6 1/2 inch strips cut 2 1/2 inches wide. Use a 2 1/2 square for the cornerstones. I like to use a TOT fabric with several pleasing colors for those 2 1/2 strips and then a nice solid black for the cornersones. Add a 2 1/2 solid black border and then a nice 4-5 inch outer border and you will be good to go!! The finished quilt size can be what ever you like....I usually use 42 different novelities and that, plus all the sashings makes up to be a very nice size snuggle quilt.
For those sashing strips, I have a family of colors/patterns that I buy at WalMart. Some have dots or swirls but they all go together so well...pinks, purples, blues, yellows, greens, oranges, browns...they give the eyes a place to rest with all those busy novelities!! Don't sweat it...pinks look great next to oranges!!!!!

From time to time, this board holds an I spy swap. It will yield you 120 five inch squares It's so easy.
I have collected a bunch of I spy ideas here. It should give you some food for thought.

I am just starting my second 'I Spy". The problem is, I can't find the left overs from the first (too much stash?) I have a few pieces, but I know I have not scratched the surface of what I really own in 'character prints'. I have a dozen or so and apparently, we just missed a swap. I would be happy to be part of another if anyone is interested.

Good Morning!! I made an I Spy quilt for a good friend for her new baby. I used Printed Treasures Photo Fabric Sheets, got pictures of her family members, and worked them in though out the quilt. She loves crawling around looking for Nana, Daddy, Mommy, Aunt Becky, etc. It has been such a hit! Just a suggestion for your granddaughter. Good Luck!
