    I, too, think kids like bright colors. No problem with that, but I'd add more subtle borders to tone it down if you like. And as a Xmas quilt, its a winner in my book.

    I cut one emery board into about 3 strips and keep them handy here and there to use for turning under edges. It grips nicely. Have done this for a few years now. Its a tip worth repeating.
