Hi everyone, I'm so frustrated by this. I use Terial Magic or Mary Ellen's Best Press to get out wrinkles as I'm ironing.
Isn't it supposed to work that way????
I can't tell you how many times I've ruined a part of a block using these products.
I have a Oliso iron and it's not on the highest setting. Lowering it didn't help. I must be doing something wrong but it doesn't make sense to me that I have to wait hours or days while pressing blocks.
Any suggetions? TIA

what is the reason you have to wait?

if they don't work for you then why not just stop using them?

I am a Best Press user...it works for me to lightly spritz the fabric and in about a minute start to iron. Never had any problems with it.

Do you have any scrap pieces of fabric to practice on?

I would also cover my ironing board cover with an old pillow case or sheet f you are having trouble with scorching..

Must be very frustrating.

I've had trouble with spray starch or sizing if I got the fabric too wet.

In the olden days ... pre Best Press, I used spray starch.
So I know all about scorching!! That was why I switched over.
Have never had a problem with Best Press.

I spray with the BP ... and don't wait all that long, til I press.
More like seconds ... not minutes/hours/days!
Certainly no significant time lapse.
BTW ... I use an Oliso on the high setting.

(Know nothing about Terial Magic.)

Try a pressing cloth. That's just a piece piece of muslin.

Try cleaning it off with something like alcohol to take the residue from the sprays off.

I've not had a problem with Best Press and scorching, other than on my wool pressing mat. I now cover the mat with an old diaper. That does eventually begin scorching, too (the diaper, not the fabric), especially if I'm pressing a large number of units at one time.

When I started using Best Press, I pressed immediately after spraying. Then I found that I preferred the results and the process if I wait a few minutes until the liquid soaks in. So I'll press units on the right side on my wool mat, then place them next to my wool mat still right side up, spritz the seams lightly, then go on to doing something else for a few minutes. I'll then go back and turn the sprayed pieces over on the pressing mat (they are damp but not wet) and press the pieces on the wrong side. Once my ironing board cover (a piece of flannel) gets stiff with Best Press, I just wash it.

I'm sorry you're having this frustrating problem! I'm thinking it's something to do with your iron. I go between 4 and 5 on my iron dial (6 is the cotton setting).

Well, I've used them for years so I have a sneaking suspicion it may be my iron. I believe they are good products so I figured I was doing something wrong.
Thanks, everyone for your suggestions. Isn't it amazing how I didn't think of something as simple as a press cloth? But that's my pea brain.

Nah ... no pea brain ... you just knew the annoyance of working with a press cloth!

I had never used one, until I got into the scorching problems with the spray starch.
Yes it worked. But I did find it too annoying, in a lot of ways.

Another thought ...
Nothing was mentioned (I don't think) as to whether you are pressing with a dry iron? or steam?
FWIW, I just use a dry iron, highest temp on the Oliso.
