DH wants YOUR opinion please

I also prefer the same flooring thoughout with the possible exception of baths and utility room. We have the same ceramic tile thoughout the house...baths included. I love it, but it is colder than wood in the winter.

The wood all over is my vote.
One question...we had "pergo" about 15 years ago. I would NOT install it again, although I hear it's much better now. The reason why is:
1. It doesn't "feel" the same as wood floors - it's just not as absorbing on the feet and legs.
2. It doesn't "sound" the same as wood - it just sounded weird, if you can imagine that
3. It never looked like wood flooring - it looked like fake wood flooring and was uber-slippery.
I'm sure what you are considering is not like that, but if there is any way to get into a "real" house that has it installed and see what it's like - I'd try it.
And tell DH that his idea of defining a room is great, but the flooring will provide the "consistency" they need. Just like with a quilt...you want some variance, and then you need some consistency...the floors are ideal to keep the same. You can then change wall color and change the furniture placement. Also, the kitchen and bath have the advantage of cabinets, hardware, etc, that can really change up how they look.

"Correct" decorating dictates that you do NOT use multiple carpets. Choose a hard surface (for example, the vinyl that you like) and a carpet. If you have a lower level, you could choose another carpet, but don't put various carpets on one level. As stated earlier, you'd have trouble selling in the future and you'd be "stuck" with your color schemes in each room if you chose drastically different colors. Good luck!

After reading all your replies, we've come to a somewhat of a decision...and we had such a good time reading them. DH especially was ROFL!
We are going to likely put the one flooring (Amtico) throughout, with the possible exception of one of the bathrooms.
Thanks to all for your ideas, comments, and the great laughs! :)
