No one asks me to mend for them. At 6 foot tall and 240 lbs., I don't get many requests like that. They just say really, that's interesting.

Oh. Did I mention I'm a 50 year old male?

All it takes for people that won't take no, meaning to shut up about it, is to botch the mending job so bad they won't ask again. This really works.

I was asked to make some leotards. I hate sewing stretchy material so said my machine couldn't handle it!

We have an embroidery shop and every time someone sees the machines running at a show or the fair, we hear : 1) I need a machine that sews by itself. 2) I have some pants that need hemmed. 3) That's cheating! 4) I need just a little alteration done. Of course the answer to most of those is: these are embroidery machines. They don't sew. The answer to #3 is: Did you ride a horse here today? That's called progress and so is this! LOL

I have heard asking a quilter to mend is like asking Michaelango to paint your house!

When my girls were little and a button fell off, or a hem came out they would say...."Oh great we are going to have to wait for Grandma to come and fix this!" We always had a pile of mending for when my mom came to visit.
