I agree with others on here. When we are creating through quilting, sewing, cross stitch or such we are artist. There is nothing like taking a abunch of color and making something from it. That is the same thing an artist does.

If you select the pattern, the fabrics, and the motifs you are an artist. If you put a pre-cut kit together you are a craftsman. I've seen a lot of patterns that you can only follow if you are artistic.

Gosh - one of my wish/goals my whole life was to be some type of artist. I always thought of the traditional - painting, drawing, maybe even singing - but since I never had talent in those fields - I thought I would never be an artist!
I only started quilting about 1 year ago - and thanks to you all - I finally feel that I am an artist! Maybe still a novice artist but an artist none-the-less!

I think all quilters are artists, even when they are following a pattern. Some people can not choose colors very well and other quilters quilts just "sing" because of the beautiful colors they choose, but they are both artistic. One quilt may be beautifully constructed but not very lovely in color and another may call to you across the room, but not be constructed well. Wouldn't you call both artistic attempts?
