I usually buy a yard of each..I guess I am in the minority but that way I can use it 2-3 times in quilts and be able to get more fabric when the new lines come out again...without spending way too much..

If it is a fabric line, I usually buy 1 to 1 1/2 yards of my favorites (no more than 2 favorites), and 1/2 yard of the rest.

Lately, I have bought precuts (layer cakes, charm packs, jelly rolls) and a yard or so of 1 or 2 of my favorites, I find that most quilts do not call for 3 yards of one fabric and it also means I can buy more different fabric.

I think the ones buying the 3 yds or more will make a lot more quilts than I do. One are two of the same fabric is my limit and I am trying not to add to my stash.

So I guess it depends on how you quilt.

I'm curious - a couple of you mentioned bolts of fabric. How many yards are in a bolt of fabric, if it's new?

I think I may have found the pattern I want to use for this fabric. What do you think?

If it is something you really can't live without (which happpens to me alot) and your not sure what you are doing with it I personally would buy nothing less then two yards and if I had the money I would buy three. :-D

oh no! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha......................

I have to admit I will get 7 or 8 yards if I really like it. I have a few like that and it frees me up to use it as often as I like and still have plenty more if I get another idea.

If I really really like it 1/2 yard of each fabric and then 2 yards of my favorites and then another 6 or so yards of backing.

I am feeling that way right now about Morris Tapestry but I only bought a FQ of each right now. I plan to buy some additional yardage of my favorites.
