[quote=AlisaQuilts] I went shopping yesterday and found that some charm packs held more than others. ..

Other manuf. vary a lot, from 20 charm sq to 40 etc Don't know about other strips/rolls
I noticed in the latest catalog from Nancy's Notions that she has various sizes - even up to 52 pieces. I wonder what their rationale is - value of the fabric included?

I couldn't find the jelly roll set to do a quilt I found in a book, so had to but the fabric and cut myself. Not hard at all to cut, plus like the others, great way to use up

I cut everything myself. Having tried a few jelly rolls, etc. ... not all are accurate and I don't care for the way they do the edges.

When they first appeared in the shops I was excited, but I never got around to buying one. I could not justify the cost and convenience of having someone cut and coordinate fabric for me. Perhaps if I were a "newbie" with little fabric and experience in color selection .....
I am a Senior (72 yrs), happily living alone. I have a huge stash and lots of time. When I want to take a machine break, I often spend the evening pulling fabric and making my own jelly rolls. I do the same things with squars (I have stacks of 5 1/2; 6/1/2; 8 1/2;, etc ).
It boils down to how much is it worth to you - to each his own. The important thing is GET THE QUILT DONE :>)

I cut my own and store in plastic bins...each color together with a label saying how many. I'm too cheap to buy precuts....I cut my own layer cakes etc too.

I cut all my own fabric. I don't like jelly rolls, charm packs etc. They are never cut accurately. I also like choosing my own fabric.

I did make some jelly rolls for gifts though.

Sometimes it depends on how many different prints are in the collection. Benartex has a line called "Tried and True" by Nancy Halvorsen; that collection has 55 different fabrics in it and so the charm packs also have 55 fabrics.
