I dont iron my strips. I just finger press as I sew them on.Never had a problem. I also dont pin them on. I fold and stitch as I go.I always finish by hand with a blind stitch.

You and a few others may be in the minority because most of us enjoy the binding because it is the finale to finishing the quilt. You can buy the pre-packaged binding, you are limited to the colors but it is already made for you. Maybe you can find a find and exchange a task for a task (something you may enjoy doing for her in exchange for that person finishing the binding). You can also leave extras fabric on the back and fold it (a certain way) to the front for a neat finish for a binding. There are a few techniques that you can use in order to speed up of take short cuts to finishing your product. If you have a quilter, they will do it also. Just a few ideas to help. If you were close by, I would trade the binding for the cutting.

Not the only one! I have been using RIcky Timms machine technique and will never go back. It is quick and easy, but I do recommend buying the video to study. I get rave compliments on the look of my bindings and can do a king size in less than a day!

I'm thinking about doing the pillowcase method on my next kids quilt and see if that looks ok.
I quilted two charity quilts and used the pillowcase method, then I ran about 1/4 to 1/2 inch "seam" around the outside edge. I think it looked fine and with the seam just inside the outside edge it resembled being bound. I certainly don't think I would use it on some of the fancy quilts I see, but I don't make anything so fancy that the pillowcase method wouldn't be ok on.

Binding is not my favorite part of quilting, but.... it means that I can check another finished quilt off the list.

    That's a Good Thing!

I actually like to bind. It gives me the "whoo hoo" feeling. When it's done, I'm done.

Sorry, but I really enjoy the binding part of a quilt. I actually look forward to it.
