I am looking for some different border ideas for a quilt I'm working on. I don't have much assembled yet, but am open on ideas for a border. I think I want to piece the border, and am considering a piano key border. I have also thought I could put squares in the border and applique around the sides. The blocks have sashing with corner blocks. The theme is mermaids and main colors are turquoise/teal/coral/yellow. I will attempt to attach a block.

    Any ideas for different/unusual borders?

No ideas for a border, but I really like your quilt. So cute. Is it for someone?

Thanks, it's for my granddaughter. I was browsing thru images on google last night and saw a wavy border. I think it would look good, but that would be a first for me. Maybe it's easier than I think...no mitered binding. LOL

I really enjoyed doing the braided border on the quilt I just finished (any chance to show it off again, sorry  ).

It was easy to cut and quick and easy to piece, and you can make the strips whatever size you like really.

    I got the instructions here:

    http://www.quilterscache.com/B/Borders.html

lots of other ideas for borders there too.

I'd like to see the whole quilt without borders before recommending much. Your piano key idea would look great but I would play off of the subordinate colors. I'd use the greens, reds, golds, pinks, and maybe the tea, but I would not play with the teals and corals, because the borders would disappear and be lost with the primary colors. You could use blocks with fans in the corners to tie it all together.

I like prettykitty's idea, It would sorta look like ovean waves with the right colors.
