It's your hobby and you can do whatever/ however you want to do it and what YOU like! Although I have never done one, I love art quilts (and the people involved) because it is much more open-minded, with no wrong way to do anything, as mistakes often turn into something wonderful :) The different types of quilting reminds me a lot of politics! lol

When someone hurts me I reflect on the saying "hurting people hurt others." Maybe she's judged in her own home and doesn't know any other way of life. Say a prayer for her that the Lord will bless this lady today with acceptance in her life and then enjoy your many gifts!

Do you think that when you finish piecing the tops, which can be made of scraps, the cost of the batting and backing cause you to put it aside and then it becomes another UFO or WIP. I know this happens to me.

I love working at the top ... but I suffer to think of quilting!
Because I do not hand out large pieces and machine ... I first started and there is no way I would like: even and quasi-perfect!
But I live in patchwork and quilting no one does so in a moment I thought to call me ... "QUEEN OF THE TOP"!
Hahahaha!

I agree with amandasgramma. I have a saying, "Who died and made you God?" My place is not to judge anyone else....who the heck did she think she was? Do your own thing...NEVER let anyone else put you down. A quote that I remember from a sociology class: "Do not judge another man until you have walked the path of life in his moccasins."
Do not allow a random woman to discourage you....maybe her circumstances are worse than yours...hmmm.

Here is what happens to me more than not... I really enjoy "creating something out of used" so I get an idea in my head and run with it. Sometimes it does not work out as I planned in my head, but looks beautiful anyway. It probably will not get finished, but I will keep it and refer back to it as my learning piece. I think we are toughest on our selves... I am my worst critic.. and desire praise... hehehee... so let it roll off your back.. which is hard.. but none the less have to do it.

I used to book the speakers for the quild I belonged to. Most of the quilters that came in, left their very best quilts in top stage and never quilted them. WHY? It kept them lightweight and more portable, so they could take them 3x the number of their designs to trunk shows. Just like there are lots of people who never sew, but design/create on the the quilting software. There are some days I like to sew, some days to quilt, some days to cut and some days to hand quilt. I have UFOs in all catagories. But almost everyday I do something, if only to collect pictures of beautiful creations I would like to create for myself. Note - I no longer belong to a small group and guild. I have left the police behind and strictly do what is right for me. May you find your way, and tell the rest of the naysayers, so long.

One more thing, I know of a very famous quilting lady who adored antique quilts and could only afford to make miniature quilts, because she just did not have the money to purchase fabric for anything bigger. She figured, if she would recreate the antique quilts designs she loved, in a 12" to 18" format. Today she writes books, designs fabric lines, lithographs her quilts for framed art and sells her minature for thousands of dollars. I am sure the quilt police told her the only real quilts fit a bed. Can you say, "Bite Me!"

I much prefer piecing myself because I hurt all over after I've taped my quilt sandwich to my tile floor and pinned it together. But I finish them regardless of the aches. If that's not for you, remember, your house, your rules.
