I heard that this is called "the rocket/feather" pricing mode. When gas prices rise they go up like a rocket and when they fall they drift down like a feather. This could well be true for cotton also.

Somehow I doubt the price of fabric will drop down. Kind of like the gas prices, they ALWAYS seem to have a reason to raise the price but never seem to adjust downward.

Somebody's been growing, picking in abundance or the fabric manufacturer's realized their mistake. I'll still wait a while before I buy new.

Still like my thrift store purchases. Needed soft white fabric for the bac k of a crib quilt, went to SA bought a Cotton Percale king size flat sheet for $2.00. Very soft and cuddly.

You mean Fall and Christmas fabrics for 2012 ? Fall and Christmas 2011 were ordered 6 mos ago. For next year, the best to hope for is a small price adjustment that shop owners MIGHT pass on ... but in 20+ yrs of quilting, I don't remember EVER seeing fabric prices go down.
99% of quilt fabrics are printed in China and Korea, add to that the overseas cotton supply problem with floods and drought, and we have an uncertain market for the future. The US is not a player anymore, sad to say.
We just need to remind ourselves what our quilting sisters in AU and Europe pay, that will make us feel better ! :roll:

I so understand that! I am a mid-west farmers daughter and fuel prices are way expensive. We tell people "never cuss a farmer with your mouth full" and now we can all say don't forget about the cotton farmer. We may not eat it but we wear it!
