He was very patriotic however, especially since we moved to Australia to follow my family (I am English but lived in the USA for 24 years where I met my husband) I can see how it could be thought he did die in service from the words at the bottom of the quilt but that was put there because he loved his country so much - the rest of the squares around that preprinted panel are the ones that tell his life story, such things as his birth in San Jose, the date we were married, the Rose of Sharon applique for his late and much loved sister, the pumpkin because only in the US is halloween really celebrated, his high school etc. His mother returned the quilt to me after his death, (he died in the US while travelling to see his family and yes, he took his quilt with him!) but I feel it belongs with his family and so returned it to her. Again thank you all, this is one of the nicest sites I have ever belonged to, I can see I am going to enjoy getting to "know" you all and your beautiful quilts will give me inspiration for years to come. By the way my name is Carole.
    Dearest Carole,

Although your husband was not in the armed forces, he did serve his country well by being an ambassador for the USA where ever he went.

Thank you for sharing his story and life with us. You are a great example of how to love your spouse and your family.

I am sorry for your loss and pray you are comforted daily by our heavenly Father.

    PittsburgPam,

What a wonderful quilt. It is so crisp and clean looking. It makes me proud to be an American.

Thanks for sharing your talent and patriotism with us.

yes - I could not have got through the past 5 years without God in my life. It was only through His Grace that I got through the pain of losing my husband in 2004, my beautiful male chinese crested dog in 2006, my mum in 2007 and my dad in 2008, I do not see how anyone can get through even one day without the Lord in their lives! Blessings and thank you.

Thanks... I worked on it over the weekend and I got 4 stars done and the 4 side sections of 6 blocks sewn together. Have 4 more flowers to applique on the center and 8 star blocks to do. I think I am going to change those 8 stars, I am really tired of doing flying geese units. It is a QST star like the other 4 but the center has an offset smaller star in the middle.
