There's nothing like a rag quilt and yours are terrific! I know all the rag quilts I have made are loved!

You've a lovely collection of quilts there, I love your Eldest Daughters Rag Quilt.
I've still to bit the bullet & make one, I just don't fancy sitting snipping all those edges though.

Oh BTW welcome to the board from Nottingham, UK.

I also love rag quilts. Is that son in an USMC enlisted dress blues uniform? If so, bless him for serving.

Cajun -- the fleece rag quilts don't "rag" quite like flannel ones do, but they're easier, cheaper, and faster to make so I do those as graduation gifts. Have done them for about 6 years now, and make about 20-25 a year. They are not batted, just single layer of fleece. I buy fleece in bulk, cut fleece in bulk, and then when I get in the sewing mood, I pick out what I think would go together and sew them up. The kids all seem to have loved them each year.

Dunster -- yes, my eldest is a currently serving Marine, my younger son will be going through college on a Marine scholarship and getting his commission after graduation, and my younger daughter is planning on being a Naval nurse. My husband is a former Marine, and as you've guessed we've tried to develop a love of country and of service in them.

Reneebobby -- believe it or not, that's in his barracks. The quilts for both sons come from a very funny source. Both of the fabrics used in them were used by my mother for outfits for me when I was little. I swear, I have pictures of me in the outfits. So when I first started sewing quilts, I asked the boys what material they wanted and they both picked those. I couldn't believe it, tried to talk them out of it, but they were insistent. The quilts turned out so cute, they love them absolutely, and I just look at them and laugh.

Quilter1962 -- the snipping isn't so bad... just make sure that you do a triple seam or some type of seam with multiple stitches because if you do a single stitch seam and accidently snip it... you're dead meat once it goes through the wash. I snip over a long period of time, I do it for a little bit here, a little bit there, but it's not all that bad. It makes up for how simple the rag quilt is to make.

Thanks for all your kind comments. I just have fun making them all. It's definitely my relaxation. I sit in the living room with my machine on my lap and interact with the kids while they have been on the computer or playing video games or watching tv. It's my release.
