I am sewing along putting rows together...I got up to press, picked up another row and sat down to my Bernina 160 Virtuosa and it was just off, no lights, no power...no nothing. I checked plugs, cords, outlets and anything else I could think of. I loved sewing on this little machine. Yes I know they don't last forever. I have a number of sewing machines, but this seems to be the one I sew on a lot. I hope it is not a fortune to have it repaired. This ever happen to anyone else out there? If so, what was the problem? Help. one sad cookie...

I can relate to the "What Happened?" alarm.

Have you checked the wall outlet? And the electrical strip, if you are using one? If they are working, then it really is your machine. Your Bernina probably has an internal fuse and it may be that it has blown and needs to be replaced. A trip to your machine doctor might be all that is needed.

There are 2 circuit boards on the computerized Berninas. One is the L-print (on the back of the machine) and the other is the S-print (on the front of the machine), both of which retail for around $300. It's hard to tell which circuit board blew, but I'd bet it's the L-print, as that is the power board. It may be worth it to you to get the circuit board. If you were to put $300 into a new machine, you wouldn't get very much of a machine. Or you could see if your Bernina dealer would take it on trade towards a new Bernina.

Call your Bernina dealer asap. They usually can talk through some problems over the phone.

Good luck, every dealer I have ever called about a machine problem has said you have to bring it in. Not one has tried to offered to troubleshoot over the phone.

Have you tried turning off the machine (even though it doesn't have power), unplug all cords and then wait 2 or 3 minutes. Then plug up all the cords and turn the machine back on?

This sometimes works with electronic equipment -- why I don't know.

I also would start with the electrical. Plug into different outlet and see?
Also - my local Bernina shop would not help over phone I m sad to say...
