I know you said you didn't like Hobbs 80/20 batting. However, Marshall Dry Goods sells Hobbs 80/20 sized 96" x 30 yards for $120 + shipping. The blurb below the picture says it is 70 pounds, but I can lift it, so it is not even close to 70 pounds. It does need to be quilted more closely than some of the other batts, though.

I also buy Marshall's 5 oz. poly batting and love that for 'fluffier' quilts. I use it on most of my charity quilts, and also some personal ones. It's only $40 for a big 30 yd. roll.

I haven't used the polyester batting in a long time. I quilted a large quilt with a poly batt and it really did not work out well. The problem was probably me, but I'm not willing to take another chance on it. Hobbs 80/20 works for everything. Sometimes I use fleece as batting, too.

This is what I normally use Fairfield Toasty Cotton. It's affordable, lightweight, and easy to catch on sale. 90' x 25yds is on sale for $109.99 right now and you can have it shipped right to your house for $2.99 with the coupon code mentioned at the top of the website.
